Gabriel Yahyahkeekoot is a video artist/poet/actor originally from Beardy's and Okemasis First Nation. Primarily a poet, Gabriel has been able to link his poetry into filmmaking, acting, radio, and magazine and live performance. Much of his work stems from his personal experiences in the city of Regina, the place he grew up and still calls home. His first video, A Moment of Clarity debuted in 2003 at the Independent Media Arts Alliance’s annual national conference. This film was part of a collaborative group exhibition for the MacKenzie Art Galleries exhibition “That’s My Wonderful Town” in Regina, and was later purchased by the MacKenzie for its permanent collection. His latest work, Mayasitiw, has been screened across Canada and was nominated for a Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival in 2005.

Hi Gabriel et al,
My name is Craig Nesland and it is the Grade 5/6 class you will be working with. There are 24 students in total (14 in Grade 5 and 10 in Grade 6). Some of the students may have experience using a video camera, but only if they have one at home that they have used. We have not done a lot with a video camera at the school, in fact, we're still in the process of finding a digital camera that will work with our older iMacs and older software. Hopefully this does not become a hindrance. They will happily soak up any information and experiences that you can provide them with and we are looking forward to having you visit our school.
Hi Craig,
Sorry about the delay in editing this page and contacting you. I'll be coming up with my friend Shane Bellegarde who's a partner with Acimo Productions who's also an accomplished actor. It's no problem that not all the students haven't had camera experience before, we give a crash course on "guerilla filmmaking" and I do some demo's using the students as subjects, it's really cool (special effects and such) and fun. As far as the older mac is concerned, I wouldn't worry about it too much. To maximize the time with the students in video art and filmmaking, we may only be able to scratch the surface with the computers. After the initial session(morning) with the students, we're going to develop scenes which they'll act/film in the early aft. With the remaining time we would like to have a "Mini-Film Festival" with us all viewing the student's work. We'll also bring two proffessional camera's (I believe Sherron is also bringing 4 cams) as well as some handouts that have awesome tips in filmmaking, so we may need a photocopier and a tv and dvd player for the demo and the "Festival". If anyone wants they can check out our website
www.acimoproductions.com
We have video and a photo gallery as well as past projects with students on the site. We're excited to come up and meet everyone and it'll be a lot of fun. Oh yeah, we may need tapes for the cameras if you don't already have some as the students will be split into groups in the aft and all camera's will likely be in use. Peace
Gabriel
!
Hi Craig and Gabriel - and welcome Shane!
I'll be in Spiritwood Friday to bring up 2 cameras and I'll have 5 tapes. I need to send the other two cameras up with you Gabriel on Tuesday - I can bring them to you on Monday night.
This is going to be great!
